Fires destroy 3 homes around Fillmore Avenue

Story tools:

Buffalo firefighters had a busy morning Monday, battling three fires that destroyed houses within a roughly 15-block area around Fillmore Avenue, forcing city fire officials to request emergency demolition of all three buildings.

Two of the three fires were arsons in vacant houses, while the cause of the third blaze remains under investigation, according to fire reports.

The most serious fire was reported at 1:39 a. m. at 914 Genesee St., about four blocks west of Fillmore, where the fire started on the second floor and extended to the attic.

Fire officials listed $90,000 damage to the house, along with $10,000 exposure damage to 918 Genesee and $5,000 damage to 908 Genesee. The cause remains under investigation.

At 3:29 a. m., firefighters responded to 123 Lathrop St., about 10 blocks east of Fillmore. The arson left an estimated $30,000 damage to the vacant house.

Another arson in a vacant house was reported at 4:36 a. m. at 240 Wilson St., just west of Fillmore, where the fire caused an estimated $40,000 damage.
