Two charged with stealing 30 cartons of cigarettes

Story tools:

Two men accused of stealing 30 cartons of cigarettes from a smoke shop on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation have been arrested, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday.

The arrests followed a lengthy investigation into the March 20 break-in at the Crossroads store, 12940 Route 438, Versailles.

Uriah J. Prine, 22, of Lackawanna, and Jessie L. Schmidt, 24, of Amherst, both are charged with burglary and petit larceny. Prine also is charged with criminal mischief and possession of burglar’s tools.

The investigation, led by Detective Matthew Noecker, also determined that Prine had stolen cigarettes from the smoke shop on March 16 while the store was open, the Sheriff’s Office reported. Prine also was wanted on warrants issued in Buffalo and West Seneca.
