Man gets 5-year sentence for burning child on heater

Story tools:

A Hagen Street man will spend the next five years in state prison for burning the child of a girlfriend.

Lamar Scott, 30, who has been jailed since his arrest for the February 2008 incident, told State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns on Monday that he was sorry for hurting the boy. Defense attorney John K. Jordan told the judge that Scott had been unaware the space heater was hot when he placed the child on it. He said he will appeal the sentence.

Scott, who still faces a possible additional prison term on a parole charge in a federal gun case, pleaded guilty March 31 to a reduced felony charge of second-degree assault.

Prosecutor Aaron F. Glazer said Scott was indicted for injuring the child by repeatedly pressing the boy against an extremely hot space heater while he was baby-sitting him Feb. 26, 2008.
