Spectacular car crash results in DWI charge

Story tools:

SHERMAN—A young Sherman woman was charged with driving while intoxicated after a one-car accident at about 10:30 a. m. Sunday on Sherman-Stedman Road, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Samantha L. Griswold, 20, of Sherman- Stedman Road, was issued an appearance ticket in Westfield Memorial Hospital, where she was taken for treatment of her injuries.

Her car veered into a ditch, hit a culvert, flew through the air into a wooden fence and hit a tree 20 feet off the ground, officers reported. It then fell onto the driver’s side and came to rest on its wheels. Deputies said Griswold told them she fell asleep while driving.
