Two hurt in robbery at Portville home
PORTVILLE—Two Portville men were pistol-whipped at about 10:30 p. m. Thursday during a robbery in a West River Street home, Cattaraugus County sheriff’s officials said.
Two bandits, armed with what was believed to be a semi-automatic pistol, entered the home where one of them, identified by authorities as Robert Barnes, 35, of Portville, pistol-whipped the two victims, deputies said. Barnes also stole $500, deputies added.
One of the victims was taken by Portville Ambulance to Olean General Hospital, where he was treated and released. The other victim was not seriously injured.
Barnes was charged with seconddegree robbery, two counts of seconddegree menacing, two counts of second degree assault and a count of petit larceny. He was arraigned in Portville Village Court and sent to the Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $1,000 bail.
What happened to the accomplice remained unclear.
