Facing passport charges, man accused of bank fraud
A 39-year-old Derby man was indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday for allegedly committing bank fraud to purchase a 52-inch flat-screen television and several other appliances.
Shane C. Buczek, who is already in jail facing other federal charges, is accused of felony bank fraud. FBI agents have been investigating him for more than a year.
In March 2008, Buczek was accused of passport fraud, a charge still pending against him. After his release on bail on that arrest, he allegedly used a bogus debit card account to purchase $8,800 in merchandise—including the TV, a washer and a dryer —from a store in Hamburg, Assistant U. S. Attorney Anthony M. Bruce said.
In recent weeks, Buczek, of Derby Road, has been held in a jail in Brooklyn, where he has been undergoing a psychiatric evaluation ordered by U. S. Magistrate Judge H. Kenneth Schroeder Jr.
