Restaurant, apartments are damaged by fire

An early morning fire caused $65,000 in damage to an Amherst Street restaurant and the building’s second-floor apartments, Buffalo fire officials reported Tuesday.
Firefighters responded to a 1:36 a. m. alarm at Nick’s Place, 504 Amherst St., where fire broke out on the second floor and extended to the attic of the 2z-story frame building. Residents of the apartments apparently escaped unharmed.
