Suicide victim suspected in attack on teen in Perry
CASTILE—A Silver Springs man who took his own life early Tuesday morning is suspected in a late Monday night attack on a 15-year-old male on a Perry roadside, State Police reported Wednesday.
Troopers reported earlier this week that the teenage victim was walking home on Oatka Road about 10:30 p. m. Monday when he was attacked from behind by a male and struck in the head with a handgun.
The assailant tried to bind the teen with plastic flex cuffs, but the would-be victim fought off his attacker, grabbed the gun and fired two rounds into the ground. At that point, the attacker fled the area in a pickup truck.
While troopers were investigating the Oatka Road incident, Wyoming County sheriff’s deputies responded to a suicide call on Oak Hill Road in Castile. Paul J. Richards, 39, was identified as the deceased.
Investigators found evidence at Richards’ home linking him to the assault and attempted abduction from the night before, troopers said.
