Grand jury to get case of pedestrian’s death

Story tools:

An Erie County grand jury will soon consider the fate of Christopher Tulumello, accused of driving the pickup that fatally struck a Buffalo woman and injured her 4-year-old son after running a red light at Main Street and LaSalle Avenue on Dec. 3.

Tulumello, 21, of Getzville Road, Amherst, waived an evidence hearing in the case before City Judge David M. Manz on Thursday.

District Attorney Frank A. Sedita said that, barring a guilty plea, the grand jury action would begin shortly.

Joel L. Daniels, chief attorney for Tulumello, who is free on $90,000 bail and wearing two electronic monitoring devices, declined to comment.

Tulumello has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated, driving without insurance and driving without a license. Police said he sped through the red light at about 8:30 p. m., hitting Amanda S. Knowlton, 23, and her 4-year-old son, Isiah. Tulumello allegedly sped off in his pickup and surrendered hours later in Amherst.
