2 flights with problems put airport crews on alert

Crash and rescue crews at Buffalo Niagara International Airport were put on alert twice within an hour Thursday when two incoming flights reported mechanical problems.

Shortly before 1 p. m., a Continental Airlines flight arriving from Newark alerted the Buffalo tower its landing gear was stuck. The Continental Connection flight, with 29 passengers and crew on board, landed safely at 1:12 but had to be towed from the runway to the gate.

About 30 minutes later, a United Airlines flight from Dulles International Airport in Washington, D. C., notified the Buffalo airport its flaps were malfunctioning. The United Express flight, with 30 people onboard, landed safely at 1:55.

No injuries were reported in either incident.
