Three admit stealing prisoners’ medicine
Three former employees of the Buffalo Federal Detention Facility in Batavia could spend a year in prison and be fined $100,000 for stealing prescription medication meant for prisoners at the facility, U. S. Attorney Terrance P. Flynn said Wednesday.
Richard Lawson, Lisa Schwab and Leonard Iannello, no ages or addresses listed, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a misdemeanor charge of theft of government property.
Lawson, a uniformed member of the Public Health Service Commission Corp. and former detention facility pharmacist, along with Schwab, a former pharmacist technician, took prescription medication intended for prisoners.
They distributed it to fellow workers and kept some for themselves, according to Assistant U. S. Attorney James P. Kennedy and Special Assistant U. S. Attorney Mark Murphy, who handled the case.
Iannello, a former contract guard at the facility, received prescription medication from Lawson and Schwab, authorities said.
Sentencing is scheduled Feb. 26 before U. S. Magistrate Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy.
