Pot-smuggling trucker gets 3 years in prison
A trucker from Grimsby, Ont., was sentenced to three years in federal prison Thursday for smuggling 247 pounds of hydroponic marijuana into this country over the Lewiston- Queenston Bridge.
Stipan Krak, 51, was convicted Sept. 5 of smuggling the pot, which was hidden in six hockey equipment bags in the cab of his tractor-trailer, Assistant U. S. Attorney Thomas S. Duszkiewicz said.
Krak was arrested at the bridge on March 20, 2007. Agents from U. S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement and from U. S. Customs & Border Protection investigated the case.
Authorities estimate the street value of the hydroponic pot at $938,000. Krak was sentenced by U. S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara.
