Police say teen charged with DWI was texting
TOWN OF BATAVIA — A 19-year-old Batavia man who was using his cell phone to text message was charged with driving while intoxicated after his vehicle went off Route 98 and into a ditch before striking a tree early Sunday morning.
Genesee County sheriff’s deputies charged Adam B. Thomas, 19, of South Main Street, with DWI, speeding and failure to keep right, after the accident at about 1:45 a. m. Sunday.
Sheriff’s deputies said Thomas’ northbound vehicle went onto the right shoulder of the road, and when he attempted to get the vehicle back on the road, it spun clockwise before going off the left side of the road and into the ditch.
Police said Thomas wasn’t injured.
