Worldcolor, Macmillan strike deal
Worldcolor has signed a multiyear agreement with Macmillan to print an estimated 800 million books over the life of the deal.
Worldcolor, formerly known as Quebecor World, said the agreement renews and expands a long-running service agreement with the publisher. The deal with Macmillan’s New York-based U. S. operations includes major trade best sellers, textbooks and paperbacks. The exact length of the deal was not disclosed, and Tony Ross, a Worldcolor spokesman, did not return a call to comment.
“The Macmillan name is one of the most distinguished in all of book publishing, which makes us even more proud to be able to renew and extend our valued relationship with this important customer,” said Kevin J. Clarke, president of Worldcolor’s publishing services group, in a statement.
Worldcolor operates a printing plant in Depew, called Worldcolor Buffalo, with 638 employees.
Dave Smith, general manager of the Depew plant, said Macmillan is one of the local site’s top four customers.
The Macmillan deal will not generate any new jobs at the Depew location “but does secure another large piece of our core business,” he said.
