World's Largest Disco tickets sold out in record time

Story tools:

Despite a hike in ticket prices, this year's World's Largest Disco party sold out in record time, according to organizers.

Buyers scooped up the last of the roughly 7,000 tickets to the highly anticipated, '70s-themed event at 10 a.m. today, disco founder Dave Pietrowski said.

"This is the first time they sold out in the presale" to members of the mailing list, Pietrowski said.

Last year, a small number of tickets were made available to the general public, but they sold out within 20 minutes of going on sale.

Tickets this year went on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday, at $50 per ticket.

In a twist, organizers started selling tickets at the highest price. After two days, they fell to $45 per ticket. Tuesday, they were selling for $40 per ticket.

A couple hundred tickets were available this morning, at $35 per ticket, before they ran out, Pietrowski said.

"The overwhelming majority were sold at $50," he said.

Even though expenses for this year's disco, set for Nov. 29, will be significantly higher than in years past, organizers expect to raise a record amount of money for charity.

Proceeds from the event, which began in 1994, benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times.
