• Duane Jacobs has been hired as an assistant coach by the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League. It will be the second stint with the team for Jacobs, whose duties will include coordinating the offense and overseeing all offensive personnel. Jacobs was an assistant coach with the Bandits in 2005 and ’06 before leaving to become head coach of the Minnesota Swarm.
• Pinch runner Rashad Eldridge raced home on a wild pitch by Oneli Perez in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Durham Bulls beat the Memphis Redbirds, 5-4, in the Triple-A championship game in Oklahoma City. The first pitch Perez threw after entering the game skittered past catcher Brandon Yarbrough to the backstop to allow Eldridge to score the winning run for the Tampa Bay Rays’ affiliate.
• Dwayne Randall (Peek’n Peak Resort) defeated David Wedzik (Golf Evolution, Erie, Pa.) to capture the Western New York PGA Cutter&Buck Match-Play Championship at Westwood Country Club in Williamsville. Randall had defeated Tim Fries (Transit Valley), Kirk Stauffer (Pine Acres) and Eddie Suchora (Park) to reach the finals in the two-day event. Wedzik triumphed over Todd Grassi (Kahkwa Club), Jon Hoecker (Brook-Lea) and Michael O’Connor (Kahkwa Club) en route to the title match.
