A dinner honoring Western New York’s past and present is April 23 at Lucarelli’s Banquet Center, 1830 Abbott Road, Lackawanna. The event will recognize University at Buffalo head football coach Turner Gill and celebrate the Buffalo Bills as pioneers of the AFL.
It is being presented by the Buffalo Bills Alumni Foundation and the Monday Quarterback Club.
Master of Ceremonies will be Paul Peck, WIVB-TV sportscaster and radio voice of Buffalo Bulls football. Featured speakers include: Gill, ESPN college football analyst Paul Maguire, retired Buffalo News Sports Editor Larry Felser and former Bills’ trainer Eddie Abramoski. Net proceeds to be donated to the Buffalo Bills Alumni Foundation and UB Athletics.

BASEBALL: The Tonawanda American Little League is searching for former players, coaches and league personnel for its 50th anniversary celebration on May 3 at the league’s clubhouse on Frances Street. BOXING: A limited number of $30 tickets are available to tour the grand opening of the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame on May 16 from 5-8 p. m. The Hall is located at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall, 31 East Hughes Street in Belfast. The event includes a tour of the barn where John L. GIRLS BASKETBALL: The Defenders National 16-under AAU team is looking for one or two local varsity players who are 16 or 17 and still a junior. This team will play in local, regional and national AAU tournaments in April through July. Contact Joe Dougherty at 982-1605.
GOLF: The Brighton Park Women’s League, 70 Brompton Road in the Town of Tonawanda, is looking for members. The nine-hole league plays on Tuesdays. HOCKEY:The Kenai River Brown Bears of the North American Hockey League is having open tryouts on May 22-24 at Holiday Twin Rinks in Buffalo. Cost is $175. SOCCER: The 10th annual Soccer Goalie Day is April 25 from 9-4 p. m. at Buffalo State College. The camp is for goalies of all skill levels for boys and girls ages 8-18, including high school seniors. TABLE TENNIS: The Greater Buffalo Table Tennis Club has moved to a larger location at 500 Parker Ave. in Buffalo. The club has doubled its tables from four to eight from the previous location in Tonawanda. It is open Monday-Friday from 6:30-10 p. m. Drop-ins and novice players are welcome.
