Amherst, which last won a sectional championship in 2005, is going back to the Class B Far West Regionals in field hockey.

Molly Reinhart scored six minutes into overtime to help the host Tigers (13-5-1) to a 2-1 victory over top-seeded Williamsville South on Monday.

Amherst will face Pittsford Sutherland in the regionals Wednesday in Medina.

The winning goal came off one of the 11 penalty corners Amherst had in the game. Katrina McQuiggan assisted.

Brooke Bullock scored the Tigers' first goal off a corner feed by Zoe Horvath with 3:20 left in regulation after freshman Cassandra Hopkins had tallied for the Billies with 4:40 left.

Williamsville South (15-3-1) owned a 2-1 regular-season victory over Amherst.

"We had flu running through our team and a number of kids were not at their best. We were very flat," said Amherst coach Laurie LeGoff, a South graduate.

"Of course, we're very pleased with the team effort. We played poised possession hockey, very focused for 60-plus minutes. We knew it was going to be a challenging game, and we're happy the kids rose to the challenge with effort and intensity.

"Brianna Brooks was an outstanding defender for us, stepping up and distributing the ball. Our goalkeeper Jessica Banning did an excellent job reading the play and redirecting the ball to open space."
