Autopsy results awaited for man found dead in Batavia
BATAVIA -- Police said this morning they still are waiting for results of an autopsy and toxicology test in the investigation into the death of a 27-year-old city man whose body was found this weekend outside a video rental store.
The Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office is conducting the post-mortem examination of James M. Maher, whose body was found at 9:36 p.m. Saturday outside the Blockbuster store at 8351 Lewiston Road, Batavia police reported.
Investigators don't know when they will learn a cause of death or whether Maher had drugs or alcohol in his system, Detective Sgt. Patrick Corona said.
There were no obvious signs of trauma to the body, he said.
Police said Maher has family in Mechanicville, north of Albany. The Richmond Avenue address listed for Maher is the address of the nearby VA Healthcare System Medical Center.
Evangeline Conley, a local Veterans Affairs spokeswoman, said privacy laws prohibit her from confirming whether Maher was a patient at the center.
