Dog, cat perish in Wheatfield house fire

Story tools:

A dog and a cat were killed in a fully involved house fire Sunday afternoon in the Town of Wheatfield, Niagara County sheriff's officials reported.

Authorities received a 911 call at 2:10 p.m. reporting heavy black smoke coming from the kitchen at 6112 Walmore Road. The homeowner, Debbie Curyto, told deputies that she left her home at about 1:30 p.m. and returned about 40 minutes later to find the house fully involved in flames.

Officials reported extensive damage to the house, as they continue to search for the cause.

The SPCA was called to assist with the two dead animals, while the Red Cross was called to help two adult residents.
