Batavia police probe death of man outside video store

BATAVIA -- Police continue to investigate the death of a 27-year-old city man whose body was found Saturday night outside a video-rental store here.

The victim, identified today as James M. Maher, of Richmond Avenue, was found at 9:36 p.m. near the Blockbuster store at 8351 Lewiston Road, Batavia police said in a news release.

He has family in Mechanicville, north of Albany.

The cause of death is not yet known. The Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy.

A Blockbuster store manager said she was not allowed to comment when reached by The Buffalo News today.
