Harris selected eighth overall in NBA D-League draft
Niagara Falls product set to join Maine Red Claws
Former Niagara Falls High School and Syracuse swingman Paul Harris was selected by the expansion Maine Red Claws in the first round with the No. 8 pick overall in Thursday's NBA Development League draft.
One of the best players ever produced by Western New York, Harris averaged 12 points and 8.1 rebounds per game as a junior at Syracuse and posted 28 career double-doubles. After the conclusion of the 2008-09 season, Harris declared himself eligible for the 2009 NBA draft but was not selected.
Harris played alongside former Niagara Falls and Syracuse teammate Jonny Flynn as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves' summer league team but was not being offered a spot on the team's preseason roster.
The Utah Jazz invited Harris to attend its preseason training camp but Harris suffered a sprained ankle the week before camp began and didn't heal in time to participate. He was waived by the Jazz late last month.
