Good morning, Buffalo: a quick look at what's happening today
Despite the election, today should look a lot like Tuesday, only colder -- pretty nice to start, then turning cloudy and rainy. Except this time there could be snowflakes among the raindrops as the evening progresses. High might hit the mid 40s, while overnight low will flirt with the freezing mark. Forecast for Thursday is wet, windy and chilly. Nevertheless, the National Weather Service still is promising a warm-up for the weekend.
Once again it's do or die for the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series and it won't be any easier now that they're back in Yankee Stadium. Game time is 7:57 p.m. Listen on WECK 1230 AM. Watch on WUTV, Channel 29.
Early-stage developments and, possibly, further details will emerge on developer Rocco R. Termini's grand visions for the old AM&A's building and the Lafayette Hotel when the Buffalo City Planning Board meets this morning. With hurdles aplenty, including financing, Termini's proposals have been greeted with cautious optimism by downtown business leaders, developers and government officials."
The state Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration will host the second in a series of public design workshops on the future of the Scajaquada Expressway from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in St. Mary's School for the Deaf, 2253 Main St. The session will focus on the feasibility of transforming the Scajaquada into a parkway "more in harmony with the surrounding community character and natural environment." The workshop is billed as an opportunity for the community to take a role in determining the future of the Scajaquada Corridor.
Sexual abuse of children in schools has been on the rise in Western New York the last few years, and a conference on the topic today will be held for top school officials. "Sexual Abuse & Our Schools," is being held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Holiday Inn Grand Island. The gathering is designed to educate school administrators and board members about the scope and implications of the problem.

Cole's, that venerable watering hole at 1104 Elmwood Ave. near Forest, is celebrating its 75th anniversary today. The party starts at 5 p.m. with the promise of drink specials, food specials and door prizes. Could be a little more crowded than usual at the bar.
