Updated: 05/04/08 11:37 AM

A 20-year-old Akron man lying in the roadway was critically injured this morning in a hit-and-run accident on County Road in Clarence, state police reported.

Kyle Regan was being treated in Erie County Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.

Regan had been a pedestrian on County Road, just east of Stahley Road, according to state police in Clarence.

Troopers said a westbound motorist saw a man lying in the eastbound lane of the road at about 3:20 a.m, but before the motorist was able to turn around and help the victim, an eastbound vehicle ran over the man.

The vehicle continued eastbound without stopping. It was described as a full-size, dark-colored pick-up truck.

"He was lying in the roadway," said Sgt. Joseph Mullen. "We don't know what he was doing in the roadway, and we're still trying to figure out why he was in the roadway."

Anyone with information is being urged to contact the State Police's Clarence station at 759-6831.
