Be my Sugar Pie
The 2009 edition of ever-popular Necco Sweethearts candy is called Menu of Love and offers a collection of 10 food-inspired phrases including “Recipe 4 Love,” “Table 4 Two,” “Stir My Heart,” “My Treat,” “Top Chef,” “Sugar Pie,” “Sweet Love,” “Honey Bun,” “Spice It Up” and “Yum-Yum.” “It has often been said that the path to a loved one’s heart is through their palate,” says Jackie Hague, Necco vice president. The candy hearts with their printed sayings have been a Valentine tradition for more than a century. They come in two sizes: half-inch and three-quarter inch.
Approximately two words with four letters each can be stamped on
the small hearts, and two words with five letters each can be used on the larger ones.
The World War II kitchen
The National World War II Museum in New Orleans is encouraging members of the often called “Greatest Generation” to share their food stories as part of the grass-roots program, Kitchen Memories.
The museum, dedicated in 2000, tells the story of the American experience during those war years and realizes that many memories will center around culinary happenings. Celebratory meals, everyday meals, rationing, gardening and so on.
The goal is to produce a collection of stories, recipes and memories of WWII while it can still be collected firsthand. For more information, call (504) 527-6012 or visit www.nationalww2museum.org (see Kitchen Memories). The bagourmand
