The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy will honor BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York on Friday for its support of the parks at the annual Frederick Law Olmsted Gala, to be held in Martin Luther King Park. The event will include a dinner prepared by the Hyatt Regency Buffalo, cocktails, classic car rides, an auction and music by Saxman Slim. Tickets are $175. The hours are 6 to 11 p.m., with dinner at 7.

Francis R. Kowsky, a former Olmsted Gala honoree, will sign copies of his book, “The Best Planned City in the World: Olmsted, Vaux, and the Buffalo Park System.” Thomas Herrera-Mishler, the conservancy’s president, will receive the Library of American Landscape History’s “Preservation Hero 2013” award for efforts on behalf of the Olmsted park system.
