A two-alarm fire that erupted about 4:20 p.m. Thursday at a South Buffalo titanium plant caused an estimated $100,000 in damage, officials said.

The fire at the Goldman Titanium plant, 105 Dorothy St., was extinguished with soda ash because titanium does not respond well to water. The fire was created by two flammable fillets that knocked together and created a spark, said a fire department dispatcher. No injuries were reported.

Thirteen pieces of fire apparatus responded to the alarm, a dispatcher said.
