The Peace Bridge was closed briefly early today while Canadian authorities investigated a suspicious person and vehicle trying to enter the country, Niagara Regional Police reported.
Police were called to the bridge at about midnight to assist the Canada Border Services Agency in its investigation.
The substances, which were not further identified, were found to be natural materials and not a danger to the public, police said. Canada Border Services Agency was continuing to look into the immigration status of the man driving the vehicle.
Canada-bound lanes of the Peace Bridge were closed, as members of the Criminal Investigations Branch, the Emergency Task Unit and K9 unit assisted with the investigation. The closure reportedly lasted a couple of hours.
