Paul F. Roll Sr., an Alden town councilman and longtime assessor, died Thursday in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, after a long illness. He was 82.
An Alden native, Mr. Roll graduated from Alden High School in 1949 and served in the Army as a private in post-war Germany. After working for his own insurance company for 10 years, Mr. Roll served as a town councilman for four years, then as assessor for the towns of Alden, Bennington and Sheldon, retiring in 2001. An avid fisherman, Mr. Roll served as president of the Lions Club in Alden and helped coordinate many fundraisers.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, the former Fay F. Becker; two daughters, Lynn Stevenson and Tina Marx; a son, Paul F. Jr.; and a brother, Thomas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday in St. John’s Catholic Church, 2021 Sandridge Road, Alden.
