The Mark Cerrone 12U Jr. Thunderwolves won the Clarence Travel League baseball championship. In the semifinal game against No. 2 seed Lancaster, the Thunderwolves won 9-1. James Filippelli, Ian Evans and Mat Carden shared the pitching duties and gave up three hits. In the fifth inning the Wolves’ defense turned a triple play featuring left fielder Cam Sloma, second baseman Ethan Burke and first baseman Matt Daul.
In the championship game, the Thunderwolves defeated No. 1 seed Lockport, 14-5. Pitchers Filippelli, Evans and Carden again combined on a three hitter and 10 strikeouts. Aiden O’Lay hit a grand slam while Cam Dabill, Filippelli and Sloma also homered. The Wolves finish 8-2 and are going to the Cal Ripken Experience in Aberdeen, Md.
The Mickey Brennan Memorial Softball Tournament in Lackawanna is now an “open” level event and will feature the Pennsylvania Power and the Niagara Snappers. Both finished in the top 10 at last year’s ISC World Tournament. Feature games will start at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. tonight at Memorial Field on Ridge Road and Saturday at Veterans Stadium on South Park Avenue.
