WILSON – The Wilson School Board voted unanimously Tuesday to give up junior varsity football and replace that team with a modified team open to middle school students.

Athletic Director Jeffrey Roth recommended the move because of a shortage of players. He said there would likely be more than 40 boys on a modified roster open to seventh-, eighth- and ninth graders, “which is more than we have now on varsity and JV combined.”

In other action, the School Board promoted Scott Benton from elementary school teacher to middle school principal, a three-year probationary appointment at $80,000 a year. Benton, who replaces the retiring Phillip Incorvaia, took a leave of absence from his teaching job.
