Bishop Richard J. Malone of the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo will kick of a second “Fortnight for Freedom” in the diocese with a special Rosary Novena for Life Mass at 8 a.m. today in St. Rose of Lima Church at thecorner of Parkside and Parker avenues.

Malone also will celebrate 4:30 p.m. Mass in St. Joseph Cathedral, 50 Franklin St. to pray for the intentions of the fortnight, which will run through July 3.

Auxiliary Bishop Edward M. Grosz will conclude the fortnight with a 3 p.m. holy hour and benediction in the Dominican Monastery at 335 Doat St.

“During the fortnight, I am asking all of our parishioners to join me in prayer for religious freedom,” Malone said in a statement.


The Rev. Brian A. Brown will serve as scholar-in-residence at First Baptist Church of Niagara Falls, 554 Main St., Niagara Falls.

Brown is a prolific author and minister of the United Church of Canada.

As scholar-in-residence, he will preach occasionally, contribute to the church’s publication, “The Tower Topics,” and develop and lead the church’s special Lenten series of services.
