Brittany Taylor scored her first goal of the season in the 89th minute Wednesday night to give the Western New York Flash a 2-2 draw with Chicago Red Star at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. Taylor got the equalizer, finishing off a long ball from Alex Sahlen to climax an uphill battle for the Flash (6-2-2), who stretched their unbeaten streak to seven games and remain in third place in the National Women’s Soccer League standings.

Chicago had the lead much of the game. Red Star got on the board first when Alyssa Mautz scored just 38 seconds in. The Flash got the equalizer in the 13th minute when Adriana Martin headed in a cross from Vicki DiMartino. Chicago, however, reclaimed the lead before the halftime break, when Leslie Osborne scored on a header from Lori Chalupny, last week’s NWSL Player of the Week. Red Star held the lead the rest of the way until Taylor’s goal. The Flash played again without stars Abby Wambach, Carli Lloyd and Samantha Kerr, who were called for service with their national teams.

Next for WNY will be a home game against the Seattle Reign at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester.
