SAFE Act targets the wrong people
It is official – a judge has allowed Aurora, Colo., shooter James Holmes to pursue an insanity defense. It seemed like premeditated murder to me.
For my part, I have been a licensed gun owner for nearly 30 years, I tow cars for a local police department, I am a licensed insurance adjuster and I currently work in a school, all things that required fingerprints and extensive background checks.
Holmes will most likely end up in a mental facility comparable to most hotels, with all of his worldly needs taken care of, instead of facing the full measure of justice allowed by law. We, the public, will foot the bill.
Meanwhile, Gov. Andrew Cuomo feels that the problem can be solved by placing more restrictions on me. Thanks, governor, I feel safer already.
