NIAGARA FALLS – Soil sampling is planned soon at a former Niagara Falls gas station, the state Department of Environmental Conservation announced Thursday.

A public comment period is under way and lasts through July 5 regarding 710 Niagara St., a one-story masonry building where a buyer intends to open a gas station with a franchise doughnut shop or convenience store.

A brownfield cleanup was requested last fall by Bajwa Property Holdings, which bought the building last year. In February 2012, the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency granted Bajwa owner Surjit Singh a five-year, 100 percent tax exemption on the property as part of its Opportunity Zone program for sites in the downtown areas of the county’s three cities.
