An alleged threat Thursday to harm William Kaegebein Elementary School on Grand Island was unfounded, the Erie Ciounty Sheriff’s Office reported, but as a precaution, nobody was permitted to enter or leave the school building during their investigation.

School officials said a parent reported that her child had overheard talk among other students about a threat to the safety of the school. “An investigation was started to determine the credibility and the source of the threat,” the sheriff’s office said. “All indications are that the threat was actually talk among the students that may have grown as it was spread. Nothing has been found to suggest that any of the students, teachers or staff were at any time in danger.”

Kaegebein Elementary on Love Road serves 400 students in grades two through five.
