The Buffalo News invited school board candidates to provide a statement about why they are running for office.

I’ve never backed away from a challenge and I’m not going to start now! More still needs doing! Any New York State school board member can attest that the last three years have been some of history’s most challenging. However, I am proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish in Ken-Ton. I say we, because I’m part of a team. Over the last three years, we significantly increased transparency, Board accessibility, and community participation in the budget process. In addition, we successfully negotiated several contracts by building an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust with our employees; thereby, enabling all of us to work together to overcome some of the most devastating budget deficits in the District’s history.

Unbelievably, through it all we’ve even initiated new programs, like Big Picture to increase graduation rates, multiple Career Academies that provide students various opportunities to build strong career foundations, and implemented a new elementary math program. All in all, we’ve overcome tremendous adversity and still found ways to expand opportunities for our children.

Currently, we are in the middle of our consolidation project. Along with those challenges, I expect some excellent opportunities over the next few years. Working together will enable us to solve problems, overcome adversity, and strive to provide truly outstanding opportunities for our children.

Therefore, I would appreciate the opportunity to continue my work as a member of your Board of Education; thereby, enabling me to work collaboratively with the Board, Superintendent, Ken-Ton’s employees, and our community to formulate a successful course of action. Then and only then can we get back on track to becoming a premier school district by 2020.

However, I can’t do it without you. Therefore, on May 21st please vote for me, Bob Dana, for our Board of Education. Thank you!
