Classical pianist and composer Lara Downes recently released “Exiles Café,” an album that features selections from late 19th and 20th century composers whose works were written in exile. The common thread – a combined longing for home and a sense of the excitement of new possibility amid the unknown – provides thematic continuity in the hands of Downes, who was recently praised by the Washington Post for live performances “rendered with drama and nuance.”
Downes celebrates the release of “Exiles Café” with a special one-off engagement at 7 tonight in Denton, Cottier & Daniels, 460 Dodge Road, Getzville. Admission to the concert is free, but organizers ask that attendees bring a nonperishable food item for the Food Bank of Western New York and make a reservation via dentoncottierdaniels.com.
