The latest addition to Buffalo’s already rich choral scene is a group of auditioned singers united under the leadership of former Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus director Doreen Rao. They are known as the Buffalo Master Chorale, and Friday, they will be joining forces with the Holy Trinity Lutheran Chancel Choir and the Buffalo Niagara Youth Chorus to show the city what they can do.

The concert is called “Land of Hope and Glory: An Evening of Music from the English Choral Tradition.” Included will be “Rejoice in the Lamb” by Benjamin Britten, “O Clap Your Hands” by Orlando Gibbons and Edward Elgar’s “Coronation Ode” and “Psalm 29: Give Unto the Lord.”

The music takes place at 8 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1080 Main St., Buffalo. On the organ will be the church’s virtuosic organist, James Bigham. Leading the choirs will be John Fleischman Jr., the Buffalo Master Chorale’s associate director.

The concert is free and open to all. – Mary Kunz Goldman
