The winners of the Friends of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Young Musicians’ Scholarship are:
• Cindy Xue, a violinist from Williamsville East High School, $3,000.
• Aaron Schuman, a trumpeter from Kenmore West High School, $2,000.
• Joseph Desotelle, a percussionist/marimba player from Williamsville East, $1,000.
The students will receive their awards at 8 p.m. April 20 during the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra’s concert at Kleinhans Music Hall, 3 Symphony Circle.
The Holocaust Resource Center of Buffalo is holding its Arts and Writing Contest for students in grades seven to 12. Entries in either visual arts or writing should focus on the theme: “Never Again: Learning From the Holocaust.” Prizes will be awarded for each category in each grade. Deadline is April 19. Shakespeare in Delaware Park will hold interviews for its high school apprenticeship program called Shakespearience from 1 to 3 p.m. April 27 at Buffalo Seminary, 205 Bidwell Parkway. Session I, “Hamlet,” will be held June 15 to July 14, and Session II, “Measure for Measure,” will be held July 20 to Aug. 18. The Williamsville North Planetarium Show and viewing of the skies with telescopes from Penn Dixie Paleontological and Outdoor Education Center will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Williamsville Space Planetarium, 1595 Hopkins Road. The event is free.
