In classical music-crazed Western New York, the word “orchestra” typically calls to mind the sumptuous sound of oboes, strings and other traditional instruments converging to produce a resounding, immersive experience. Not so with Hans Tammen’s Third-Eye Laptop Orchestra, an experimental and unpredictable project coming to Buffalo State College tonight.

Tammen, an experimental composer and musician known for his innovations in electronic music and his use of an instrument known as the “endangered guitar,” spent four hours rehearsing with a group of local musicians for tonight’s concert. He describes the instrument on his website as “a journey through the land of unending sonic operations, an interactive hybrid between a guitar and a computer.”
