Canisius freshman Alex Godzak was named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball on Monday. He is the first Golden Griffin honor to earn the honor since Sean Jamieson on March 28, 2011. Godzak pitched seven no-hit innings as part of the first nine-inning no-game in Canisius history. The Griffs defeated Iona, 8-0, last Friday. the left-hander struck out six batted and walked two.

In seven appearances, five of them starts this spring, Godzak is 4-1 with a 2.48 earned-run average. Opponents are batting .200 against him. Godzak also was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week while teammate Christian Segar, who batted .643 with five runs scored, five RBIs and five steals was named MAAC Player of the Week.
