HealthNow New York appointed Jeffrey Sheridan public relations specialist. Sheridan ran former Rep. Kathleen C. Hochul’s district offices after spending nearly six years working for Rep. Louise M. Slaughter. He graduated from Niagara University.

Goodwill Industries of WNY named Jose Orta contract and business manager. Orta joined the agency in August 2012 after serving as a Navy recruiter. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Medaille College.
Firefly Cupcakes will open its second location this spring at 1008 Elmwood Ave., the former site of Zillycakes. Zilly Rosen, owner/operator of the former Zillycakes, will join Wendy Egloff, owner of Firefly Cupcakes, at the new location. The original site of Firefly Cupcakes is 700 Main St., East Aurora.
MASH Urgent Care Network will open two new Western New York locations this spring, adding a new Kenmore/Town of Tonawanda urgent care site at 1751 Sheridan Drive and one on Niagara Falls Boulevard in Amherst later in the spring, for a total of seven Western New York locations. With the new facilities, the MASH Urgent Care Network will employ more than 150 people in Western New York. Five MASH locations are currently open, in Amherst, Clarence/East Amherst, Lancaster, Olean and Orchard Park.
McDonald’s will break ground for its newest Buffalo-area location at 4993 Transit Road, Lancaster. The restaurant, expected to open in May, will employ more than 75 local residents. McDonald’s of Lancaster will be owned and operated by Derico of East Amherst Corp., a McDonald’s franchise organization owned by Enrico Francani. Francani, a McDonald’s franchisee for more than 26 years, owns and operates 17 McDonald’s restaurants across Western New York.
Michael McCartney and his business, Home Medical Equipment of WNY of Depew, donated an electric wheelchair to a 39-year-old resident of Corning who was recently diagnosed with ALS. The patient’s insurance company would not cover the expense of a power wheelchair, which she needed to improve her quality of life.
