Frances Mazzone of the Town of Tonawanda, who operated a beauty salon on Hertel Avenue with her sister, Phyllis, died unexpectedly Sunday evening at home. She was 86.
Born Frances Castrogiovanni in Jamestown, she moved to Buffalo with her family and attended School 19 and Grover Cleveland High School. While doing production work at W&F Manufacturing on Seneca Street, she attended beauty school.
Mrs. Mazzone and her sister began working at the Jean K. Beauty Salon at 1245 Hertel Ave. in the late 1950s and purchased it in the mid-1960s. Married to brothers, their proceeds from the salon helped their husbands open Sebastian’s Restaurant at 884 Main St. The sisters closed the salon in 1979.
Mrs. Mazzone was a regular parishioner at Coronation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.
Her husband of 54 years, John J., died in 2000.
Survivors include her sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:15 a.m. today in St. Paul Catholic Church, Delaware Avenue and Victoria Boulevard, Kenmore.
