Judge rebukes burglar, spares him a life sentence
Story tools:
Dale A. Neason, who served two prior prison terms for burglary, was rebuked Tuesday for failing to take responsibility for his lengthy criminal record and sentenced to two years in prison for his latest theft.
State Supreme Court Justice Christopher J. Burns spared Neason a possible life sentence as an incorrigible criminal but chided the 42-year-old man for blaming his arrests on a “drug problem.” In January, after a nonjury trial, the judge found him guilty of burglary and possession of stolen property for a break-in at the Save- More Store at 675 Fillmore Ave. last Feb. 21.
Prosecutor Paul M. Michalek Jr. said police arrested Neason by following footprints in snow to Detroit Street, where he was found with a shopping cart full of stolen goods.
