Town of Tonawanda residents living along the route of a pending sewer replacement project will get a chance next month to air their issues.
A public meeting is planned at 7 p. m. March 2 in Kenmore East High School. Notification letters will be sent to residents directly affected, as well as those on neighboring streets.
“With a project of this [magnitude], . . . obviously there’s going to be some disruption,” Councilman Joseph H. Emminger, chairman of the Town Board’s Water Resources Committee, said Monday night. “We want to address the residents along the route to get their concerns.”
Another public meeting will be held in May, Emminger added.
The first of a four-phase project to replace the Parker- Fries interceptor — the main sanitary sewer serving the eastern half of town — will involve 11,000 linear feet of sewer line. Phase One is scheduled to begin this spring at the Parker Pump Station and follow Parker Boulevard to Eggert Road, then several smaller streets before crossing Sheridan Drive.
At Monday night’s Town Board meeting, lawmakers voted unanimously to seek bids for that job, expected to cost $24 million, as well as $2 million in water line improvements in the same area.
The bids are due March 23.
