Standoff victim’s brother still in custody at ECMC

Story tools:

The 24-year-old man who rammed a Buffalo police cruiser Friday and displayed a gun to an officer was still in police custody Saturday at Erie County Medical Center.

Jason Ocasio, 24, had not yet been arraigned Saturday night, and was still in the hospital being treated for his injuries, said Michael J. DeGeorge, Buffalo police spokesman. The extent of his injuries were not disclosed.

Ocasio is accused of intentionally striking the cruiser at about 4 p. m. Friday outside Buffalo Police Headquarters at Franklin and Church streets before waving a gun at police and then leading them on a short car chase that ended on Trinity Place.

He is the younger brother of Eric Ocasio III, who was fatally shot in Monday’s standoff with Buffalo police.

Friday’s incident happened just hours after the funeral for Eric Ocasio.
