OTANNENBAUM— Earlier this month, the North Tonawanda History Museum, 54 Webster St., hosted Polish and Swedish holiday programs. Tonight it’s the annual German Christmas celebration, presented by the Historical Society of North German Settlements in Western New York. The program starts at 7 and includes carols in German and English.

PAST PRESENTS—For a holiday gift with a historic touch, there’s the first-ever calendar from St. Ann Church and Shrine, Broadway and Emslie Street, which shows the church’s magnificent sanctuary and stained-glass windows. Then there’s “The Masons of Batavia—Artists All,”a book highlighting the works of nationally acclaimed watercolorist Roy Mason, his brother Max and sister Nina Mason Booth. It also re-creates embossed seals made at the Mason factory in Batavia in the 1920s. The book, written by local author William F. Brown Jr., originally was published in 2000 and is enjoying a limited second edition. It’s available in Present Tense bookstore, 101 Washington Ave., Batavia, and in the Holland Land Office Museum gift shop, 131 W. Main St., Batavia.
Train buffs will cherish the 2010 edition of the Salamanca Rail Museum calendar, which includes photos of the Pennsylvania Railroad repair shops in Olean, aB&Orail snowplow and the long lost Buffalo, Rochester& Pittsburgh station in Great Valley. In the Cattaraugus County Museum in the Stone House, 9824 Route 16, Machias, there’s a variety of books, including “Lime Lake:A Historical Review” and “Cattaraugus County Bicentennial History: 1808-2008.” There are also bicentennial T-shirts, small, medium and large. Call 353-8200.
On display in the museum are Department 56 collector scenes on loan from Maggie Fredrickson, assistant Franklinville town historian.
