Story tools:

DUNKIRK—Three people—including a 4-year-old child—were taken to the hospital following a three-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in the town of Dunkirk, Chautauqua County sheriff’s officials reported.

Authorities said about 2 p. m., Evelia Atayde, 21, of Forestville stopped her minivan at the intersection of Route 60 and Williams Road before proceeding across Route 60 and into the path of a car driven by Ilka Figueroa, 31, of Mullet Street, Dunkirk.

The Figueroa car collided with the minivan, causing it to spin and rollover, crashing into a third vehicle driven by Herbert Horey, 84, of Doughty Street, Dunkirk, whose vehicle was stopped, police said.

Figueroa, 4-year-old Genisis Figueroa, and Atayde were treated at the scene for neck and back pain before being transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital.

All of the vehicles were extensively damaged. Charges are pending a police investigation.
