The Buffalo Tennis & Squash Club recently honored Ed Jocoy for his years of dedication to the game of squash and announced that the first tournament of each season will be known as the Ed Jocoy Season Opener Tournament.
Jocoy, a four-time city champion, was ranked No. 13 in the country in the mid 1960s.
Former Bills coach and Pro Football Hall of Fame member Marv Levy will be the featured guest at the Monday Quarterback Club luncheon, sponsored by Kaleida Health, next Monday at the HSBC Arena Harbour Club. Doors open at 11:15 a.m. with the program to follow at 12:15 p.m. Also appearing will be Jeff Miller, who with Levy co-authored the book, "The 50 Greatest Plays in Buffalo Bills History." Also scheduled to attend are former Voice of the Bills, Van Miller, who along with Rob Thompson co-authored the new book, "Fasten Your Seatbelts: The Van Miller Story." Hall of Fame goaltender and former Philadelphia Flyer Bernie Parent will appear at Benchwarmers Sports Bar, 30 Mississippi St., at 1 p.m. Friday to meet fans at an autograph session and watch the Buffalo Sabres-Flyers hockey game. Parent will sign autographs before the game for a nominal fee. Photographs will be for sale and signing.
Former Amherst Central soccer coach Bob McAllister was inducted into the New York State Boys Soccer Hall of Fame at a banquet last Saturday at the Soccer Center in Oneonta.
BASKETBALL: The Gloria J. Parks Community Center, 3242 Main St., will hold Thursday "Coed Youth Drills, Skills and Play" from Dec. 3 through Jan. 28. Sessions for ages 6-9 will be from 4-5 p.m., for ages 10-14 from 5-6 p.m. All participants must have a current membership in the center. Call 832-1010.
WRESTLING: The Orchard Park wrestlers have formed the Quaker Wrestling Club for youth wrestlers age 6-14. The club will host its first tournament Jan. 10. An organizational meeting and first practice under coach Bruce Pryce will be from 6-7:30 p.m. next Monday at the Orchard Park Senior High wrestling room. Enter through the Freeman Road entrance. Cost of membership is $25 per child ($20 if more than one family member) and each child must obtain an AAU membership card. Call 903-9619.
